WSOP Event #51: Carsten Joh Wins A Bracelet For Germany

Posted by: admin  /  Category: Poker Room News

Carsten Joh has managed to fight his way through a tough field in the $1,500 No Limit Hold’em event, thus winning the first WSOP bracelet for Germany since Katja Thater in 2007.

The $1,500 No Limit Hold’em tournament saw the remaining 30 players take their seats on Day 3 and it didn’t take long before that number fell down to the final nine players. Thibaut Durand entered the day with the chip lead and managed to fight his way through the field to enter the final table with perhaps not the largest but still respectable stack of 1,420,000.

Jason Helder had nearly 3 million in chips which made him the chip leader when the first cards were dealt at the final table, meanwhile Nathan Page and David Walasinski were swinging around 700,000 as the shortest stacks. 118 players came back for the second day of the $2,500 Razz Event. A lot of big names were left in the field – Al Barbieri, John Juanda, Eli Elezra, David Sklansky, James Van Alstyne and Dario Minieri were just a few of those still in the running for the bracelet.

Event 41, 5K NLHE Shootout: Traply Wins 1st Bracelet

Posted by: admin  /  Category: Poker Room News

The $5,000 No Limit Hold Em Shootout at the World Series of Poker saw 280 players take part in a series of effectively single table satellites. The winner of their first table made the money. Making it through the 1st round were Jennifer Harman, David Pham, Neil Channing, and Phil Ivey. In order to make the official final table, however, you had to best a table of 6 in the 2nd round. Five players did so and the final table was comprised of the following (all players started each round with the same amount of chips):

Seat 1: Maxim Lykov
Seat 2: Danny Wong
Seat 3: Andrew Lichtenberger
Seat 4: Peter Traply
Seat 5: Nasr El Nasr

The first really big pot of the day took place when Andrew Lichtenberger opened on the button for 60K and Nasr El Nasr re-raised from the big blind to 175K. (Read the full post about ‘Event 41, 5K NLHE Shootout: Traply Wins 1st Bracelet’…)

Steps Sit&gos – Steps Sit&Gos Strategy

Posted by: admin  /  Category: Poker Room News

One of the best things about sit&gos is that poker sites can reinvent them with new formats and structures. One such example are ’steps’ tournaments, where a small investment can allow you to work your way up the ladder to a large live tournament and maybe even a big score.

Satellites to major live tournaments have been around as long as the World Series of Poker. But with the growth of internet poker the sites themselves have started inventing new ways for players to qualify for events like the European Poker Tour or majors like the World Series, where they will wear the site’s colours. Key Poker Hands – Poker Tournament Strategy

Posted by: admin  /  Category: Poker Room News

While you might want nothing more than to forget your latest bad beat or bust-out, taking time to review key hands after the event is vital for improving your game. This month I’ve reviewed a selection of key hands from deep-stacked live tourneys, with blow-by-blow analysis of the play as it unfolds. Some I win, some I lose, some I play well and some I don’t. But each presents some interesting decisions and should help illuminate some aspect of no-limit tournament strategy.

Hand 1: GUKPT Grand Final 2008

I’d flopped set under set in the first level of this event but had thankfully been let off by some extremely passive play by my opponent, and had been able to chip back up to around the starting stack. Ben G

WSOP Adds Dream Team Poker Event

Posted by: admin  /  Category: Poker Room News

The second annual Dream Team Poker Event was held a Caesars Palace earlier this year, and it was such a success that the WSOP has added it to the schedule of 2009 events. The event will be held on July 12-13 after the Main Event recesses for the summer. Although this event will not have a bracelet prize as the other events do, it is expected to have a record breaking turnout.
“After seeing the terrific response to the recent Dream Team Poker tournaments in Las Vegas, we thought a team-based event would be a fun addition to the end of the WSOP,” said Jeffrey Pollack, WSOP commissioner.
If it is anything like the previous Dream Team Poker events there will be some star studded teams exchanging banter and handing out bad beats.

O’Connell 2009 champ – O’Connell takes Coral British Masters crown

Posted by: admin  /  Category: Poker Room News

Coral’s first British Masters Poker Tour ended on May 17th with James O’Connell of Motherwell being crowned the 2009 champion in Edinburgh.

The 52 year old electrical inspector fought hard to take the title, seeing off challenges from Eddie Lundon and Barry Burns who finished in 2nd and 3rd place respectively. O’Connell scooped a prize of £8,800 for his troubles – a lovely return from his original $ 5 online satellite entry.

Beating 104 players along the way, O’Connell now has a seat at the play off for the much coveted Coral.co.uk sponsorship deal in 2010.

Delighted with his first major tournament win, James told us: “This is fantastic. I have come
